<P>However in 1649, he was elected Guild Councillor and was chosen the following year as a Bailie and was unanimously appointed Captain of his Majesty’s Guard while the King was in Dundee in 1651</P>
<P></FONT>Would seem to imply that the King was in Dundee when Monck was meant to have pillaged the town. Did he escape the looting or was safeguarded by his guard, as by reading other material from the library it must have been a gruesome time for the inhabitants of Dundee. The other records suggest that the town was under siege for several days and many massacred before Monck's army attempted to extract their stolen goods by sea. </P>
<P>However, it seems as if the King was in town that these events may not have been accurate in the other literature. </P>
